Pixi Glow Tonic Allergic Reaction?!
It is with sadness, disappointment and shock that I'm writing this post...
So I'm sure you're all aware of the complete RAVE about Pixi Glow Tonic Toner at the minute. This toner retails at £18 for 250ml which is quite good value for money for a high end toner. The toner itself is a 5% Glycolic acid based toner, which claims to be for all skin types to remove dead skin cells, and produce glowing skin. I have read so many reviews, and had recommendations from friends for this toner because of the amazing results they've seen with their skin, and as my skin was looking pretty good due to my new skin care routine, I thought it'd be an amazing addition and an upgrade to my usual Garnier Refreshing toner. I went right ahead and bought Pixi Glow Tonic from Look Fantastic, and as soon as I got it I cleansed my face and used it. I was so so excited to use it, assuming I'd have perfect skin the following day...
To my horror, I woke up the next day with a swollen, red, itchy and dry face with puffy eyes.
I didn't want to take too many pictures because of how bad my face was, but hopefully you can see the extreme redness and swollenness. I applied a cold flannel and took Clarityn allergy tablets, and later took Naproxen (anti-inflammatory drug) and thought that'd be enough to get my skin normal again... I was wrong, I woke up with an even more swollen face, and it is now the 5th day of symptoms, and I've just been advised to buy and take Piriton every 4-6 hours and apply my usual psoriasis cream Hydrocortisone minimally over the affected areas.
I was so shocked at how my skin reacted after using the toner. I have quite sensitive skin, and as I've mentioned before in previous posts I do suffer from psoriasis but my skin has been really good lately. I'd class my skin type as Combination skin, as I do still have oily patches with the occasional dry patch, so I thought the toner would be a perfect match for my skin.
What I will say, is that I used the sunbeds for 6 minutes the day before using the Pixi Glow Tonic, which caused me to develop slightly rosy/dry cheeks. I've also been really stressed with exams, which can sometimes cause redness and flushed skin, so maybe (and hopefully) this reaction is a combination of all these factors, and the Glycolic acid just hasn't reacted well with the sunburn and dryness, and the stress has contributed.
I really would love to try this toner again, not only because of the price I paid (haha!) but also because I wanted to love it so much. I haven't been as excited to try a product as I was for this toner in a long time, so I am just absolutely gutted over my skin's reaction. I'm going to focus on getting my skin back to normal in the next week or so, and when I feel comfortable that my skin is healthy, I will attempt to use the toner again (with Piriton at the ready) to see whether it works on my healthy skin, and produces the results I wanted in the first place!
Has anybody else used this toner and had any adverse reactions? I'd love to know what you thought of the toner if you've tried it! Even though I'll be so jealous if you've had great results with the product. I'll keep you up to date with how my skin is doing in the next few days...
