Holy Grail: Concealers
concealer is a girl's bestfriend
I'm not sure if I've mentioned this enough, but face base products are my absolute favourite. I do adore eyeshadows and creating smokey/natural/sophisticated eye looks... but I just worship base products. From moisturiser and primer, to foundation and concealer, being able to create a perfectly flawless base for the rest of my makeup is the BEST thing ever!
One of my favourite face products, is concealer. We are all victims of the dreaded monthly hormonal spots, so the first thing we all reach for is concealer right?! Then there is those late nights we can't avoid sometimes that leave us with dark bags and under eye circles, and again what do we reach for? Concealer. Concealer is so universal. To actually use concealer to 'conceal' is only one of its many uses. Personally, I use it for: under eye discolouration/bags, to conceal spots or blemishes, to carve out my eyebrows and eyeliner, as an eye shadow primer/base, to mattify or lighten lipstick, to carve out my lips and also in my highlighting and contouring routine- e.g. underneath my cheek contour.
Due to my unconditional love for concealer, I thought I'd declare my Holy Grails of the concealer world. I've been using concealer since before I even knew how to apply it, so its right to say I've tried my fair share. Here goes...
1. Maybelline Age Rewind
I discovered this concealer on Chloe Morello's YouTube channel a couple of years ago, if I'm not mistaken. It was so cheap, and I loved the look of the packaging and spongey applicator so thought I'd give it a whirl... I now have purchased way over 10 of these! The creamy/almost moussey formula feels so nice on the skin so I reach for it nearly every day, and it seems to blur imperfections. I mainly use this under my eyes in a triangular shape to create a lifted eye... I'm in the shade Light.
Pros: such an easy application, blends out perfectly, light weight, really brightening, good coverage.
Cons: the only thing, it does run out quite quick, maybe that is because I use it so much but it does seem to vanish.
2. Urban Decay Weightless Concealer
This is exactly what it says it is, weightless. The formula looks thick, but it some how melts on to the skin on application. This concealer was so raved about on YouTube, especially by Jaclyn Hill so to not purchase it, that'd be a crime. When I'm going for a flawless, night out or sophisticated look... I need this. It is just perfect for when you want your skin looking SUPER good!
Pros: weightless, a little goes a LONG way, applicator is amazing, it's so moisturising whilst still having amazing coverage, so comfortable on the skin.
Cons: there is none!
3. MAC Pro Longwear
This is an all time classic concealer. I have had my Prolongwear in NC20 for so many months now, and I still have some left! When I first bought this concealer, I was worried because everyone who reviewed it from bloggers to YouTubers, they all said the pump is terrible and has a lot of waste, but the pump is actually so handy for me... Its just the right amount of concealer I need to spread around my face. When I'm going on a night out, or even just when I feel like a full coverage look, this is what I go for!
Pros: full coverage, brightening, lightweight, doesn't cake up, the yellow based shades are perfect for highlighting, blends out so easily, doesn't crease.
Cons: there is none, again!
4. Collection Lasting Perfection
This must be one of the most talked about cheap, drugstore products of all time. It's £4, and I first remember seeing it when Zoella and Tanya Burr used to talk so highly about it. This was the first ever concealer I purchased in Cool Medium 2, and years later I still repurchase everytime I run out. The formula is quite thick and creamy, but it makes it perfect for spot concealing which is what I use it for. I also use it for carving my brows, liner, cover dark circles... it's like a miracle worker!
Pros: cheap, full coverage, never looks cakey, so versatile, and it blends out like a dream.
Cons: it does oxidise slightly (you might be able to tell from the swatches), and it sometimes creases if not set properly/quickly enough.
There we are guys, they're my 4 Holy Grail Concealers of all time! You might think from the swatches, they all look completely different but I can assure you they all somehow magically adjust to my skin tone and make my base so flawless.
